For those who knew him during his eight long years in our care, "Hans" was a dog you could never forget.
Rescued from an abusive home, Hans carried the weight of his past with him. Because of the trauma he’d endured, he was once considered "high risk"—a label that made his path to adoption feel like a steep climb.
But underneath that defensive exterior was a boy who just needed to feel safe. For those who spent the time to earn his trust, Hans revealed a deeply affectionate side that made every breakthrough worth it.
His transformation was a true team effort. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of our team of vets, caretakers and volunteers, plus the expertise of legendary behaviorist Nienke Parma, Hans finally got the breakthrough he deserved. In 2021, the long wait ended: "Hansi" found his forever home with a wonderful, loving Thai family.
Today, we have the best kind of update!
At almost 16 years old, Hans is living his absolute best life. Whether he’s out on his regular neighborhood walks or choosing which of the many soft spots in the house to claim for a nap, he is a living testament to why we never give up on "complex" dogs.
Hans’s story reminds us that there is a perfect home for every dog, no matter their history or how long the journey takes.
