After 3 months of planning and preparation, our sterilization outreach team was deployed for the final phase of this extremely challenging project.
In just 5 days, our veterinary surgeons were able to sterilize 139 feral dogs in a remote area, where dogs were previously thought to be too difficult to catch. Thanks to the specially designed feeding stations, which were set up ahead of time, the dogs could be collected safely by our animal handlers and local feeders.
Based on data collected in advance using the unique mobile WVS monitoring app, 63.2% of this dog colony was sterilized during the outreach deployment. Using this technology, we will also be able to continue monitoring the impact of this project, over time.
Thanks to the close engagement with the community in developing effective solutions for this specific environment, they are already continuing the work with the assistance of the local livestock department. Sustainability is at the heart of everything WVS does, and it’s very encouraging to see this kind of continuity.
