Several months ago the sad story of Hugo, who was recovering at the WVS Rescue Center from a lifetime of abuse and a heart-worm infection, captured the attention of Nick, an Australian expat. At the time, Nick had been stuck in Oz for an extended period due to health reasons, and still wasn’t sure when he’d be back in Thailand.
Nick made it his personal mission to save Hugo from ever having to endure the adversities of street life again. So he offered to sponsor Hugo until he was fully recovered and Nick would be able to return to Chiangmai.
In January, after more than three months, the time had finally come for the two to meet, and it was clearly love at first sight! Both of them now live happily in the center of Chiangmai and are becoming a popular fixture on their walks, due to Hugo’s chilled and affectionate character.
Both Hugo and Nick have changed each other’s lives, for the better. Says Nick: ‘I can’t believe a family didn’t snap him up before I did - he is the gentlest and most serene dog I have met. And I get to keep him!’
All the work we do for animals who have nowhere else to turn for veterinary care, is only possible with the support of compassionate individuals like you. To help us help more of them, please consider a small donation, or a sponsorship at wvsthailand.org/en/donate/
