Under the banner of Mission Rabies Cambodia (a project of Worldwide Veterinary Service), WVS Thailand has joined other MR/WVS teams and hundreds of volunteers from around the globe to vaccinate 100,000 dogs against rabies in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The country has one of the highest rabies death rates per capita of any country in the world, with hundreds of people dying from this deadly disease every year.
Over 99% of human rabies cases are caused by an infected dog bite. Once symptoms of the disease develop, it is always fatal.
The current campaign, lasting 10 days, is a demonstration project and a significant first step toward eradicating this extremely deadly, yet completely preventable disease in Cambodia.
