The WVS rescue team could hardly believe their eyes when they responded to a call to collect a dog with a tumor. Poor Moji, a young female, was literally dragging a huge mammary mass along the road.
There are may types of tumors, but as an owner there’s a simple rule to deal with all of them: The earlier, the better! If a growth is cancerous, early detection greatly improves the chances that it hasn’t spread to other parts of the body yet. Even “benign” tumors can become life threatening, if they are allowed to grow unchecked.
Veterinarians recommend that you run your hands all over your dog’s body once a month. Make note of any lumps or bumps, no matter how small. Keep a record of their size and if they change size, color or texture over time, consult your vet as soon as possible.
Our veterinary surgeons will do their very best to save poor Moji, as well as hundreds of other community dogs like her, every year. But we need your help to carry on our mission of saving lives. Please, consider making a small donation.
