A Close Call For Bree

Bree, who was recently adopted from the WVS Rescue Center, was brought to our clinic by her very worried owner — Four metal cloth pins had mysteriously disappeared from her home and the owner suspected that Bree had eaten them. A series of X-rays quickly confirmed her fears.

Our veterinary team knew that any of the pins could penetrate Bree’s digestive tract at any moment and cause life-threatening internal injuries. So they monitored the situation with X-rays every few hours until, after two days, all four pins made their way safely to the “exit”.

Bree was very lucky to avoid serious injury and major surgery. If her mum had not been so observant and sought immediate veterinary care, things could have turned out much worse for this lovely young dog.

Dogs, especially puppies, often try to eat things that are not good for them. But if your dog regularly wants to eat dirt, rocks, plastic, textiles, or metal objects, he may be suffering from a condition called “Pica”. Please seek advice from your veterinarian, to determine whether the cause is medical or behavioral.

The WVS veterinary team treats hundreds of seriously sick and injured animals who have nowhere else to get help every year. In addition, we sterilize thousands of strays, to prevent future suffering from unwanted litters. Please support our life-saving work by making a donation today!
